FREMONT COUNTY, Iowa -- A Council Bluffs man was killed Tuesday night in a crash along a stretch of Interstate 29 that is closed due to flooding and repairs.

The Iowa State Patrol says at 5:47 p.m., the driver of a semi was heading southbound in the northbound lanes in the construction zone a few miles south of Pacific Junction. The state patrol's report did not clarify whether he was in those lanes as part of the construction project.

At one point, he attempted to cross over to the other side of the interstate and collided with a pickup truck.

The pickup truck rolled killing its driver, 24-year-old Vincent Flanagan of Council Bluffs. The driver of the semi, 63-year old Noello Orihuela of Bennett, Colo., was not hurt.
