Planning your summer camping trip

LINCOLN, Neb. If you want to get the kids unplugged -- off their phones and computers, camping could be your next adventure.

It's a fun way to motivate the whole family to learn more about the great outdoors.

Lindsay Rogers, a Wildlife Specialist with Nebraska Game and Parks, says Lincoln families can make camping inexpensive if they plan.

"You can always borrow camping gear. Once you start to know that you love camping, you're going to want to probably buy some of your own camping gear. But to get started just get a camp site at a local state rec area and rent or check out and borrow some equipment," Rogers said.

A few of the camp spots she recommends include Ponca State Park, Kearney State Recreation Area and Chadron State Park.

Rogers also gave us her camping checklist which includes:

A tent
Sleeping bag
Therma Rest
A cooler
Bug spray
Supplies for s'mores
Matches or a lighter
Local firewood
Games for kids
Camp chair
*Life-jackets for boating
*Fishing gear is optional
