The American Red Cross has opened six shelters in Nebraska and Southwest Iowa to assist those who have been evacuated or displaced from their homes due to flooding.
Mapped below, the shelters are located at:
Avoca, Iowa: Green Hills Area Education Agency, 919 N. Chestnut St.CLOSED
Council Bluffs: Salem United Methodist Church, 14955 Somerset Ave.
Fremont: First Lutheran Church, 3200 Military Ave.
Norfolk: Lutheran High Northeast, 2010 N. 37th St.
North Loup: North Loup Community Center, 112 S. B St.
Randolph: Randolph City Auditorium, 110 N. Main St.
Anyone who has been displaced from their home is urged to come to these shelters. Red Cross volunteers are on hand to provide a safe place to stay, a place to sleep, a hot meal and referrals to community services.
The Avoca shelter closed around noon on Thursday, citing receding waters and no need for emergency shelter in the area.
The shelters will remain open as long as necessary. The Red Cross is working closely with local emergency management officials to coordinate relief services.
