Lincoln, Neb. (KOLN) - Wally Rex Smith, also known as "Weird Wally" has died at age 76. He suffered from chronic medical problems and his daughter said, his odometer just ran out.
"We lost my mom back in December and with her passing a part of him went with her," said Roumpf.
Wally is going to be celebrated tomorrow at his beloved used car lot on 24th and "P" St. His only daughter is throwing what she referred to as a "party," to remember her father and his famous, quirky TV commercials.
Josh Fischer worked with Wally for nine years and said he was like a grandfather figure to him.
"He's just a one of a kind individual there's no one around like Wally," said Fischer.
A man with a passion for cars, who sold nearly 42,000 over 42 years.
"[He was] definitely was a salesman at heart, which is something I envy because I'm not that way at all, said Roumpf.
His co-workers said he was at his dealership seven days a week up until he passed away and that no matter what, it will always be known as Wally's place.
