UPDATE: SCSO releases more information on wanted man

SEWARD COUNTY, Neb. - The Seward County Sheriff's Office has released more information on a man with a warrant who fled from them Sunday night.

41-year-old Matthew A.Williams of Seward is wanted for theft, obstruction of a peace officer, and failure to appear when on a bail-misdemeanor.

A Seward County Deputy responded to a motorist assist in the area of Highway 34 and McKeie Road on Sunday at around 8:30 p.m. Once the deputy contacted the driver and sole occupant of the disabled vehicle, the driver identified himself as Mathew A. Williams.

Williams was not able to provide identification to the deputy and was continuing to look for it when the deputy returned to the cruiser to verify Williams' identity. Seward County Communications were able to confirm Williams' identity and informed the deputy there was an active misdemeanor warrant for Williams. Williams then fled the scene on foot toward a heavily wooded area.

In a Facebook post late Sunday night, SCSO advised they were "attempting to locate a subject in the area of Hwy 34 and McKelvie Rd." The male was described as a 40-year-old, standing 6-feet, 2-inches, about 200 lbs with brown hair, brown eyes and a goatee.

"He is wearing black coveralls, a black stocking cap and brown boots," they said in their post. "If you reside in this area, please stay inside your residence and lock your doors. If you see this man, DO NOT attempt contact with him and call 911 with his current location."

Around 2 a.m., SCSO provided another update, saying they had not located the man, and that the search had been called off.

"The subject has an active warrant and decided to run from Law Enforcement," they said. "We believe the subject has left the area. We urge the public to stay cautious and report any sightings or suspicious activity."
