Scotts Bluff County Spelling Bee

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) Congratulations to the winners of the Scotts Bluff County Spelling Bee.
Grades 5-8 competed for a chance to go to the State spelling bee in Omaha. 91 kids competed in the Spelling Bee, and 12 took home awards.

The Star-Herald, Gering Courier and Vistabeam Internet are the sponsored the Scotts Bluff County Spelling Bee. The written and oral examinations were held at Scottsbluff Middle School.

Rebecca Shields of Vistabeam organized the event, and the master of Ceremonies was Janet Gardner who has been involved with the Spelling Bee since her grade school teaching days. Gardner said she is "very proud of our young people."

5th grade: 1st Sofia Avitia - Geil Elementary 2nd: Trevor Kinnan -Geil Elementary 3rd: Ashlyn Narvais - Lincoln Elementary

6th Grade: 1st Aden Galloway -Geil 2nd:William Thomas - Mitchell 3rd Annabelle Powe - Lincoln

7th-8th: 1st: Lydia Travis 8th grade -Gering Jr. High 2nd: Micah Rush Gering Jr. High 8th grade 3rd: Wisely Mooc Scottsbluff 7th grade.

8th grader Lydia Travis who won the 7th and 8th grade "Spelldown" said she has been working really hard, and that her mom and grandma have been helping her to practice for this event.

It will be her 2nd time going to the State Spelling Bee. "I'm very excited, I think last time it was 6th grade?" said her mom, Emily Mannon.
