Signs containing profanity and political statements were discovered in the yard of a Nebraska Congressman on Christmas morning.

Lincoln Police were contacted regarding the signs left in the front yard of Congressman Jeff Fortenberry during the morning of Dec. 25.

The signs were placed sometime between 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 24 and 7:45 a.m. Dec. 25, according to an LPD incident report.

Fortenberry, a Republican, represents the First Congressional District of Nebraska.

One of the signs displayed a “naughty and nice” list, placing programs such as DACA, CHIP, Social Security, and Medicaid under the nice list, while calling Fortenberry a derogatory name.

The other sign read, “Santa says Merry Xmas to all. Except you, *expletive*.”

The two signs, left at Fortenberry’s residence in the 6400 Block of Rainer Drive, were also tagged with the name Betsy Riot, a left-leaning political protest group.

Fortenberry released the following statement regarding the incident:

“My first thought was concern for my children. I had to get these down before it disturbed their Christmas... This is hate speech. It is rage and violence through vandalism. And it is completely inconsistent with the values of our community.”
