O’NEILL, Neb. (News Channel Nebraska) – A community is shaken after a weekend stabbing that left one woman dead.

The Holt County Attorney’s Office says at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, O’Neill Police responded to a reported knife injury. After police responded to the scene, a 37-year-old Hispanic female and 37-year-old Hispanic male were both transported to the emergency room at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill.

No arrest have been made although the community is not believed to be in danger.

Residents of O’Neill, Nebraska expressed shock about the stabbing death. Resident Allen Bentz has lived in town for over 40 years and he’s always thought things such as murder happened elsewhere.

“I’m surprised, a town this size we don’t hear about this type of stuff. You always think it’s in the bigger cities. But the way things are anymore, anything can happen, says Bentz.

Brooke Buller has lived in O’Neil for 13 years and was quite surprised.

“O’Neill’s such a small town you don hear about these things happen very often,” says Buller.

Others in town like Johnny Engelbart were just wondering if they knew the person.

“I was just wondering who it was and if I knew them,” says Engelbart.

The house is located at 320 E. Clay St. in O’Neill, which is next to the Post Office.

The victim was stabbed multiple times and the Holt County Attorney’s Office has requested an autopsy.

The incident is currently under investigation by Nebraska State Patrol, O’Neill Police Department and the Holt County Attorney’s Office, who has taken the lead in the investigation.

The Holt County Attorney’s Office denied to speak at this time.
