LINCOLN, Neb. — A train fire early Saturday morning closed the 27th Street overpass for a couple hours.

Battalion Chief Jeremy Gegg with Lincoln Fire and Rescue said firefighters were called to the railroad tracks under the 27th Street overpass, near State Fair Park Drive, at about 5:04 a.m.

LFR said a Burlington Northern Santa Fe locomotive had pretty significant flames coming from it.

Gegg said crews were able to extinguish the fire fairly quickly, but a variety of fluids leaked from the train during the fire.

A hazardous materials team was called to clean up the leak, and was supervised by the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department.

The 27th Street bridge, State Fair Park Drive and Salt Creek Roadway, and Kimco Drive were all closed during the incident for between one and two hours.

Gegg said nobody from the railroad or LFR was injured.
