Two people in semi hurt after driver hits train near Cozad

A semi and trail collided near Cozad late Tuesday morning. The accident happened east of the Paulsen Headquarters on Highway 30 around 11 a.m.

Officials say a Union Pacific train was parked on the tracks. A semi driver, hauling corn, started to cross the tracks, but the parked train blocked the driver from seeing a westbound train.

The semi driver hit the west bound train. The train crew was not hurt. But two people were in the semi received minor injuries.

UPRR Spokesman, Kristen South, says Union Pacific is working with the Sheriff's Department to determine what led up to the incident.

There are no signals or lights at this crossing, but there is a yield sign.
