Court records provide new details on deadly stabbing on New Year's Day
Court documents are providing new information on a New Year's Day stabbing that left one person dead in Utica.
27-year-old Donald Polcyn Jr was arrested for second-degree murder for the deadly stabbing at 745 Indiana Street in Utica.
According to an affidavit for a search warrant, the victim has been identified as Stephen Jones, 39, of Lincoln.
According to the affidavit, the stabbing took place during a fight between Jones and Polcyn's brother around 1 a.m. on Jan. 1.
According to witness accounts outlined in the affidavit, a fight between Jones and Polcyn's brother began in the garage of the home before moving into the yard.
A witness who was trying to break up the fight in the front yard said Polcyn Jr. walked into the house and then back out to where the two were fighting, and that is when the witness saw Polcyn Jr. holding the knife.
Police say Jones was stabbed two times in the right side and later died at a Seward Memorial Hospital.
In addition to second-degree murder, Polcyn Jr. was also arrested for use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.
