Waverly schools briefly put on lockout as police chase suspects

WAVERLY, Neb. – Waverly Public Schools were briefly placed into lockout on Wednesday afternoon, while authorities chased three individuals who stole a vehicle nearby.

According to an email from the school district, the resource officer for the district was informed by the Nebraska State Patrol around 2 p.m. that police were in pursuit of three people who stole a vehicle.

Police were unable to capture them near Highway 6 west of Waverly, and they were on foot headed toward Waverly, the letter read.

That is when the schools were placed into lockout, as NSP was unable to verify if the suspects were armed.

The three individuals were apprehended a short time after, and normal school activities resumed.

The Nebraska State Patrol said a group of juveniles was arrested in the area, but the crime committed and timeline have not been released.
