Woman avoids falling for officer-impersonation scam

LINCOLN, Neb. – A Lincoln woman avoided falling for a scam after the suspect called her claiming to be a Lincoln Police officer.

LPD said on Sunday, a 21-year-old female took a call from someone claiming to be an officer, saying she owed money and needed to pay

The scammer threatened that if she didn’t pay, a warrant would be issued for her arrest.

The caller had spoofed the LPD non-emergency line, police said, so the call appeared legitimate.

The scammer also knew personal information about the female, likely obtained from a public accident report.

The victim grew suspicious and called the police, and did not suffer a monetary loss.
