LINCOLN, Neb. – Lincoln Police say a 23-year-old woman suffered a $500 loss after falling victim to a scam.

LPD said on March 8, the woman told police she received a call from a man claiming to be with the IRS.

The man told her she owed money to the IRS due to a miscalculation on her taxes.

The man told the victim she would go to jail unless she paid a down payment on the $9,000 she owed.

The man told her to get a universal money card to make the payment, and the victim purchased a Google Play card and provided the information to the caller.

The victim suffered a $500 loss before learning it was a scam.
