LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Class D1 state title was up for grabs Monday afternoon as Burwell battled Creighton in a close game.
It was the second game of the day at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, as Johnson-Brock beat Mullen in the early game for the Class D2 state title.
Creighton led most of the game, but Burwell took its first lead early in the fourth quarter. However, Creighton responded and regained the lead, and thanks in part to four turnovers, including one in the final couple minutes after Creighton retook the lead with four minutes to play, the Bulldogs came away as state champs.
The final score was 32-30.
