Nine-year old Dax Howland of the Crete area recently won the World Championship in Taekwondo in Extreme Weapons in Arkansas. The third grader trains at Gold Star Martial Arts in Crete and Seward.

Howland trains with four-time world champion Alyssa Cochnar at Gold Star and she says it's hard work that puts Dax above the rest.
"You can tell that he loves doing it and then the one thing that I think is pretty unique at his age is his work ethic, that he works so hard for what he wants. He's really done a good job," said Cochnar.

Howland said his favorite part is the weapons in Taekwondo and said he hopes to do Taekwondo as long as possible.
