Matt Waldron gave up 6 runs on 11 hits in an uncharacteristic poor outing on Friday. The senior righty was roughed up by an Illinois, who took an early lead and didn't let up in an 8-1 win over the Huskers.

Nebraska (22-15) struggled at the plate. The Big Red mustered just five hits while going 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.

Illinois was paced by Grant Van Scoy, a Papillion, Nebraska native, who finished 4-for-5 with 3 RBI.

Nebraska and Illinois play again Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
