Sadler encourages Hoiberg to take NU job

Fred Hoiberg and Doc Sadler are longtime friends. In fact, Sadler coached under Hoiberg in 2013-14 at Iowa State. When Hoiberg considered the Huskers' offer to become their next head coach, he contacted Sadler.

""I told him I thought it was awesome," Sadler said. "It was a great place. He asked if I thought it can be done there. I said absolutely."

Sadler coached at Nebraska from 2006-2012. He led the Huskers to three NIT appearances. Sadler calls Hoiberg one of the smartest offensive-minded coaches in basketball.

Sadler says one of the biggest challenges at Nebraska is recruiting. He says he encouraged Hoiberg to have frequent access to a plane to visit with out-of-state recruits.

Hoiberg was hired as Nebraska's 28th head men's basketball coach on Saturday.
