LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska linebacker Willie Hampton announced Tuesday night that he is leaving the football program.
"After prayer, talking with my mom and a good conversation with Coach Frost, I would like to announce that I have been granted my release from Nebraska, and will be transferring to play football," Hampton said in a post on Twitter.
Hampton redshirted his lone season in the Husker program.
Hampton committed to Nebraska after only visiting the Huskers. The Florida native was ranked among the nation’s top 50 outside linebackers by both ESPN and 247 Sports.
He was a member of the Brook Berringer and Tom Osborne Citizenship Teams in 2018.
