Fremont, Neb. - Midland University has announced Andrew Shanle as Director of Track and Field/Cross Country. Shanle becomes the director of both programs at Midland after displaying a diverse background in athletics, participating both as a coach and athlete in track and football.
“Andrew’s plan for obtaining and developing the top athletes in the region certainly caught our eye during the search,” said Dr. Ben Sasse, President of Midland University. “Moreover, he holds a rare ability to form a tight-knit culture while teaching students to lead as they develop their own character and integrity.”
Shanle possesses experience at virtually all levels of competition, spanning across high school, college and professional athletics. A Nebraska state track and field record holder, Shanle comes to Midland after working as a coach and teacher at Cypress Ranch High School in Houston, Texas. Over the course of his career, he has coached three high school programs, including Cedar Creek High School where he assembled the school’s first track and field program. As a football coach, he has also developed eight NCAA Division I scholarship athletes.
Despite spending much of his coaching career in Texas, Shanle holds deep roots in Nebraska. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska, where he was a member of the Nebraska Cornhusker Football team. An honorary captain for the Huskers, Shanle earned a Blackshirt as a member of the program's top defensive unit. After college, he continued his football career in the NFL where he was a member of the New York Giant’s 2008 Super Bowl Championship Team.
“The sheer energy of Midland is what initially drew me to the school,” said Shanle. “I’m really excited to join a program with such mounting momentum. We are going to do big things here.”
At Midland, Shanle aims to use his deep connection and broad range of experience to pick up the area’s top prospects.
“Andrew brings versatility and a deep background in athletic excellence,” said Jason Dannelly, Midland University Athletic Director. “We are excited about his particularly strong capacity to recruit local talent and are pleased to welcome him to the Midland family.”
Shanle comes to Midland University with his wife of seven years, Sarah, and their two sons, Brode and Bryson.
